Part one:
Tucson to Columbus
via San Antonio
As always, click on any picture for a larger version
So there I was, hoping to get out of Tucson by 1 or 1:30 PM so that we could
get into El Paso at a reasonable hour, but it wound up not being until
after 3:30 before I left, and it wouldn't have even been THAT fast
except that Ming helped me pack.
Sooo... we were off and yet
without music because my mom's laptop was acting up.
Finally after 150
miles I pulled over and did a real HARD reset (power off and battery out
for 30 seconds or so... ) upon reboot we had sound, so then I threw in some CDs
and 10:30ish we got into El Paso. We stayed at Holiday inn and in the
morning we drove to Village Inn for breakfast.

The next day was our dreaded
cross-Texas drive. I HATE DRIVING ACROSS TEXAS!!!
550 miles of JACK
SHEEZY to see. For example:
Finally we got in to San Antonio about 10PM and pulled
into Brooks AFB. I was all ready to pull out my ID for the guard so that
we could get in, but the "guard" (if you even want to call him that) was a
rent-a-cop who just waved me through the gate with huge arm gestures.

So that was Saturday night. On Sunday I called my
friend Nathan because he's at Randolph AFB (on the other side of San Antonio),
studying to be an Electronic Warfare Officer.
He came to pick my mom and I up and then
we went to go see the Riverwalk and the Alamo.
We drove around
S.A. for a few minutes trying to find parking when we stumbled across
parking that wasn't terrible, but it wasn't awesome either. I'd say it was just
"allright."
This happened to be right next to the
Alamo...
Then we walked around the
Riverwalk a little bit, which was very nice although the "river" was kind of
dirty.
Nathan dropped us off and went back to Randolph to study some, and then
later that evening we went to pick *him* up and went to an Italian
restaurant for dinner.
A nice picture of the moon with a
tree:

Anyway... the following day was my physical,
which I passed, and in the morning we drove to historic "Hangar 9" on
Brooks; the last surviving hangar from WWI days; used to house the Curtiss
Jenny:
We got gas and departed San Antonio... and on
through Houston, where we found a terrible traffic jam. Took us a good 30
minutes to get a half-mile:
We came into Baton Rouge late that evening, after the
sun had gone down, so no nice pictures of the Mighty Mississip',
sadly.
The next day we took off outta Baton Rouge on the
crappiest freeway evar. Terrible surface.
After a while we got into Mississippi and the
freeway got a little nicer, and (get THIS) I found Rush Limbaugh on FM!!!

We got into Columbus about 4:30 in the evening
and were given a HOUSE, temporarily.

The view from the house:
The sunset reflecting off the clouds with T-1s sitting
on the ramp.
Tweets lined up in the evening waiting for
the next morning's lessons...
Anyway... I was in the house for a
couple of days
and now I've moved into an apartment. It's freakin' small, but it'll be
okay for a year.

So... I'll keep y'all posted as the situation
develops.
